Knight Studios Acquires Global Production Rights to Sci-Fi Thriller The Record Shop
Las Vegas, NV and Los Angeles, CA, February 24, 2025 – Knight Studios has acquired the worldwide rights to develop and produce The Record Shop, a high-concept sci-fi thriller exploring the power of music as a tool for mind control. Created by Allen Redwing, Martha Engber, Carolyn R. Russell, and Tom Tolley, the series will be directed by Alissa Knight and produced by Melissa Knight.
Grounded in real-world neuroscience, The Record Shop takes inspiration from sonogenetics—the study of how sound waves influence brain function. Research from institutions like MIT and Stanford has shown that specific frequencies can alter emotions, cognition, and even behavior, raising ethical concerns over their potential misuse. Meanwhile, military and corporate research into acoustic weaponry has demonstrated how sound can be used to disorient and control the brain, making The Record Shop a chilling exploration of what happens when a corporation perfects the science of mind control through music.
Set in 2045, The Record Shop follows Chika Endo, a gifted music savant who lands a job testing N-Thrall, a revolutionary sound-based technology designed to heal the mind and body. But as Chika soon discovers, N-Thrall isn’t just therapeutic—it’s a weapon capable of manipulating human thought on a global scale. As they race to uncover the truth, Chika is thrust into a battle where music is no longer just art—it’s control.
“This story fascinated us because it’s built on real science,” said Alissa Knight, Director of The Record Shop. “Studies prove that sound waves can influence brain chemistry and subconscious decision-making. This series takes those findings to their chilling extreme—if music can change our minds, who gets to decide how it’s used?”
Melissa Knight, Producer of The Record Shop, added: “We were immediately drawn to the show’s unique concept—how something as universal as music could be exploited for power. The Record Shop is a gripping thriller with heart, and we’re excited to bring it to life.”
Knight Studios is currently assembling its creative team and exploring distribution opportunities.
